The following is a continuation of an earlier word from the same date... PART I: HIS DAYS ARE NUMBERED

  PART II: ATHALIAH

Friday January 22, 2021 - Morning (continued)

As I went deeper into prayer and sought the Lord for confirmation, He spoke:

"Athaliah!"

Athaliah.  Huh.  Now I can definitely assure you that this was not something I would have ever come up with on my own... especially at 6:30 in the morning.  Ha, ha! Sometimes I laugh at how the Lord chooses to confirm that I'm hearing from Him!

So anyway, who, or quite frankly, what, is Athaliah?!?  

It sounded vaguely familiar... and then it began to come to me.

“Hmmm... is it possible? Wasn't she an evil queen... Maybe even one who stole the throne...?”

And, it just kept ringing over and over in my head:

"Athaliah!  Athaliah!  Athaliah!"

So, when I got up, I went straight to my Bible to look it up. And, sure enough!  

Athaliah!

She usurped the throne of Israel after the death of her son, the evil King Ahaziah, by annihilating all of his descendants... or at least, so she thought.

Well, as with Adonijah (see January 19, 2021), things also did not end well for Athaliah, although she did manage to get in her fifteen minutes of fame first. You can read all about her in II Kings 8:25-27 and 11:1-20.  But don't skip over the passage in the middle, where Jehu is anointed by the LORD to do some pretty extensive and messy cleanup... in the other (read: divided) kingdom of Judah.

So, we have a vicious and illegitimate queen, whose days are numbered, reigning over part of a divided kingdom, and who will eventually be replaced by the rightful heir... the heir who is being safely guarded in the LORD's temple until the priest presents him to the military commanders.  Hmmm.
